as i left the office at 6 pm after my 36 hour shift, i decided to take a quick nap before heading home fearing i'd fall asleep behind the wheel. i woke up 2 hours later fresh as a daisy, so i went looking for some action. naturally, i ended up at the local church bingo night. it was such a shame, there was not one looker in the bunch.
$5,000 later, i was down to my last bingo card. someone yelled "bingo!" and that was that... or so i thought. murphy, the divorced senior who had worked as a vegas strip club janitor for over 40 years before retiring, was sitting next to me and he punched my arm. the guy was like 80 so it was more like a tickle on the arm. i think he was hard of hearing and didn't know the volume of his voice because he yelled at me spit and all, "hot dog! hey, i think this kid just got the 'super special mega hallelujah hail mary special jackpot!'" sure enough, i look down at my card and the numbers i had blotted on my card collectively formed the crucifix.
with my newly acquired 10 grand that smelled like church pews and holy water lining my pockets, i rented one of those party buses. murphy and i headed over to his retirement home and we packed that bus with his buddies and well-wishers. there must have been over 50 seniors and an accumulative age of 4,000 in that double-decker party bus.
i got a chance to met some of murphy's friends. big shout outs to mort, agnes, bertha, helga, and harry!
the night was still young, the bus was packed with an insane amount of extra strength icy hot, booze, loud swing/big band music, and you gotta have drugs... i mean doctor prescribed medication. the bus packed and swinging, we headed over to the our neighbors in the silver state. whatever happens there is suppose to stay over there but i'm just gonna tell you guys about it anyway, cuz that's the kinda guy i am this week.
yup, we headed towards the most happening spot in nevada; the hoover dam. the drive was long enough for everyone to get pretty crunk. people were liquored-up, limbered-up, and drugged-up... uh, i mean medicated. girdles strewn all about the bus, with dentures every which way.
they were a wild bunch, mixing up metamucil and greygoose, and pepto bismol with hennessy. it may sound disgusting and it does leaves a little kick in your mouth, but don't knock it until you've tried it. the pepto keeps the hang-over away, and the metamusal keeps you regular. the combo leaves you a nice buzz AND it's practical.
when we finally arrived at the hover dam i got out to take a piss over the dam under the starry dessert sky. i climbed back in and decided we better head home because i had work at 6 am.
on the ride back someone decided to take a spin on one of the abundant stripper poles on the bus. it was an amazing show. i never knew someone can bend like that. some of the stuff i saw, i've never even seen in a porno let alone a rap musical video. the show included but was not limited to spins, twirls, sliding, gliding, gyrating, dipping, humping, and props. it was a an amazing show until murphy hurt himself. he was preforming this routine that i can't really but into words, but think yoga, karma sutra, and the charleston (the dance not the chew). during his coup de grace, he slipped on some icy hot that fucking gerald had left out. murphy landed with a loud crack but luckily, he had landed on a set of unclaimed set of dentures. you would think they would be more responsible with their teeth and icy hot with around 4,000 years of wisdom in that bus.
murphy's hip wasn't broken but he was in an awful lot of pain. good thing the bus was practically packed to the gills with icy hot. all that "medication" murphy was on helped too. i was heartbroken our adventure was ending on a sour note but murphy said it was worth it. apparently, after working 40 years at vegas strip club, murphy had picked up some moves and always had a secret desire to ride the pole. "call it murphy's law, whatever can happen in party bus will happen in a party bus," murphy said everyone who had gathered around him, "and i also forgive you gerald. i forgive you and your lucky charms." i chalked that last bit about the lucky charms up to the "medication" kicking in, but i made it a point to get murphy checked for a concussion too.
we made our way to the hospital to drop murphy off. helga and bertha, the two youngest in the group, they were 67 and 65 respectively, stayed with murphy to keep him company. even with a bad hip, muprhy had game. i was the next stop so i gave the driver what's left of my 10 grand to clean up the mess mort left in the back of the party and to drop off the rest of them at the retirement home.
the driver dropped me off at my office's front door. the bus door hissed closed behind me and drove off leaving a cloud of smoke. 6am, just in time for work.

O_o
just came back from a 36 hour shift at work.
i'd like to thank the fine people of peet's coffee, cup-o-noodle, lipton coffee, clear eye eye drops, the 16.9 oz redbull and that one cigarette my co worker gave me that i didn't light up. i wouldn't have been able to accomplish this feat without you.
thank you.

tired tired tired... i'm just so very very tired
every year i grow older, i feel like i grow colder inside.
with each passing year i feel less innocent and more
disenchanted, disengaged, jaded, whatever your wanna chalk it up as.
it feels as though i started out fresh and strong with an thick armor and through the years i've been wearing down as i take the shit that's thrown at me.
wait what's that you say grav?
yeah, i know.
but it's easy said than done buddy.
as if this isn't enough, this isn't it. there's more. theres so much more shit that's ahead of me that's gonna be thrown at me.

the story of grav
i didn't mean for this to happen when i initially sketched these drawings on my 3x4 post-it pad, but when the sketches are put in the right order it tells a story... that coincidentally, echoes the ideals of grav.

sometimes when the storm clouds clear and when things are looking up

shit happens

but that's life, make the best of it.

You tell me where my destination is
Where to turn, where to go
Which route to take, which to avoid
How much further I have to go
But can you tell me where my love is?
Where do I turn, where do I go?
Which route do I take, which do I avoid?
How much further I have to go?
show me the way

Homer: "Well crying isn't gonna bring your dog back, unless you tears smell like dog food. So you can sit there crying and eating can after can of dog food, until your tears smell enough like dog food to make your dog comeback, or you can go find him!"
Bart: "You're right! I'm going to find my dog."
Homer: "Rats! I almost had him eating dog food!"

it's tooooo late to apologize...
i'm sorry about yesterday's blog. it wasn't really up to the standard i like to keep my entries to be. i was really tired and was running on little sleep. so i posted one of my blogs i had on reserve and took a nap. i'm sorry about the excuses as well.
but now i'm back. not necessarily fully rested, but rested enough to string some words together to form sentences... maybe.

so jev finally got his bimmer. that's a pic of him posing like a little japanese anime school girl.
he accomplished one of his life long dreams. next up, wsop champ. poker practically paid for the car, so i don't think that dream is that far-fetched, i believe in him.
so he took me for a spin in his brand new car. the paint still shinny, reflective, and smooth to the touch. we drove it around some hills, burned the clutch, and i broke a cup holder. overall it was a good experience.
it'll be vroom vroom soon jev.

main street goodness
a bunch of us at work was starvin' like marvin earlier than usual this morning so we went out for brunch. we went to this this place on main st. called panini garden.
the food there was soooo mouthwatering-ly good. i ordered their black forest ham egg and cheese croissant sandwich that was fantastic. it also comes with a bowl of fruit. the fruit was super good too. it wasn't just plain cantaloupe and grapes. they gave strawberries and kiwi that were sweet and delicious. we think they get their fruit from the farmers market they have on main st on sundays.
the atmosphere was pretty nice too. you can dine outside in the street watching passerby while enjoying the beach sun and breeze, or you can go in for a quaint cafe feel.
or...... you can dine where we did, the back patio area. it definitely had a secluded European garden feel to it. you couldn't even hear the cars passing by in the front. it just felt like you walked into an entirely different place. the running fountain added a peaceful touch. i highly recommend this place.

i didn't mean to blog about all these great mom and pop eateries on main st santa monica without giving you the details, addresses, and phone numbers. i googled them and there's a site devoted to the main street restaurants. of course there's a coffee bean and starbucks on it, but there's also a peets coffee.

over 6 blocks of tasty goodness and 42 options, fortunately the studio i work for is located smack in the middle of main st on ocean park blvd and main st.

thank you virgil
we went to the library alehouse the other day. i think that's default now, but i'm getting tired of burgers.

i had me some root beer that day though.
it's called virgil's root beer.
i don't have to say much, their site explains it all.
"Virgil's is a 100% natural root beer made with no artificial ingredients or preservatives."
"Think of Virgil's as a gourmet root beer. We're what Ben and Jerry's is to ice cream, what Dom Perignon is to champagne. We're a micro-brewed root beer made with all-natural ingredients. We use herbs imported from around the world and unbleached pure cane sugar."
they weren't joshing. it's a pretty good root beer. not much bite like barq's root beer, but it's really creamy and full.

i'm-a-big-kid-now... sorta kinda
now that i've started working i've been eating out more often then i would like. it's to a point where i'm craving salads for lunch.
i'm definitely more conscience about what i eat. i'm even starting to look at the nutrition facts labels. i can't decipher what the numbers are trying to tell me but at least i get an idea of what's going in my body.
i guess it's growing up, or maybe it's the feeling anyone would get from being stationary 8 hours out of a day.
now i'm not buying into all that fat free, less fat, X% fat free stuff. it's all in the wording anyway. and i'm staying away from the cancer causing sugar free/sugar substitute/artificial sweetener stuff. plus the taste really bothers me, i don't care what the ads say i can still taste the difference.
so what's for lunch tomorrow?

1 sandwich with white bread (yeah, should have gone with wheat)
1 salad with organic vinaigrette dressing.
1 orange
i've been thinking and companies are probably marketing organic products because of the whole eating healthy fad, like how all these car companies have new lines of hybrid cars, even ford. but is it really organic? it's probably a technicality or all in the wording but it brings peace of mind.
plus i'm glad to live in a society/environment's where health is a concern. i'm theorizing it's only limited to marjor metropolitan areas. i may be too green/naive/stereotyping but i can't picture a big texain passing up a steak or bbq for a salad and chosing jogging over driving a truck with a gun rack. i'm sure companies don't market the same products they do here over in middle-america, and fast food chains don't offer the same "healthier" alternatives.
i should move on with the blog... its getting lengthier than i want my blogs to be and i'm taking on too many issues.
so i'll probably be drinking green tea throughout the day. i'm trying to stay away from coffee. black is fine i guess but i can't drink coffee straight up. now if only i can stay away from the redbull.
one might see my lunch as a sad meal, but it sure beats oily pizza with a soda on the side... a soda on the side.
so at least for tomorrow i'm eating sorta kinda eating healthy. no promises for the day after that.

lipBalm
i recently lost my stick of lip balm and had to go to the store to get another stick.

i don't know if it happens to other people but i could never finish an entire stick of lip balm. i either end up losing it or having it melt.
damn those little buggers.
but thanks burt of burt's bees, for providing a natural lip balm that moisturizes lips with ingredients like ultra-emollient lanolin, coconut oil and sunflower oil, that seals in hydration with beeswax. i can even use it on healthy lips for a little peppermint tingle. it's no wonder this is your most popular product.

hello, my name is...
meet grav.

(short for gravity)
a little something about grav...
aside from the round head, small eyes, bony frame, and big ears, this guy can't catch a break. every time things look like they're changing for the better, gravity pulls him back straight down to reality again. every time he has a new opportunity, or if he manages to string together some luck, gravity shuts him down.
before you start to feel sorry for this skinny little guy, there's a silver lining to his nature. no matter how grave the situation, nor hopeless, grav looks for... the silver lining.
he just keeps on grinding. he doesn't let any kind of shit bring him down, even though it seems like he's being shitted on all day everyday.
this guy makes lemonade by the barrel.
his attitude is something we also should keep in mind with the new year.
he's someone i and everyone should aspire to be.
oh i almost forgot. keep an eye out for more grav. i have something in the works. =)
